If it is not possible to progress/deepen, the possessor should play horizontally (or diagonally) to make changes of direction (with a tendency to progress if possible).

Player 7 drives until he receives pressure from:
- Option A: the marker of player 9. In this case, player 9 keeps his position wide, in order to receive the pass from his teammate 7.
- Option B: the opposing free player. Player 9 continues to be marked. In this case, player 7 makes a change of direction passing the ball to player 4, who opens up the free space created by player 8.
Considerations
The ball holder should not be in a hurry to get the ball to the end zone, but it is preferable to guarantee possession of the ball, which will lead to:
- Greater number of arrivals to the end zone.
- More time in possession.
- Less defensive risks.
- Greater psychological wear and tear for the opposition, as a consequence of "running after the ball".
When we have a player with a high technical level (certainty of not losing the ball in a 1:1), it is interesting to hurry possession in order to:
- Create more free space for team-mates.
- Provoke in a more defined way the defensive action of the opponent towards the area of the ball ("fix"), which will allow a better use of the free spaces created.
- To provoke the possibility of overflowing the opponent in a 1:1 with progression towards the finishing areas.
- To allow the progression of all the players in their line (while the possessor progresses with the ball "under control"), which will lead to a more favourable situation than a direct deep pass (better and more adequate occupation of the "Finishing Zones" in the finishing sub-phase).
In each competition unit in its offensive phase, the ultimate goal is to reach the completion zone with finishing options, but ensuring that during the process the ball will not be lost.
Aimed at
The possessor when it is not possible for him to progress or go deep.
Training Objectives
Not to lose possession of the ball during the Offensive Phase in the associative/positional style of play.
